Small Dogs

Basenji
Smooth fur, no coat. Red, black, black and tan, or brindle, all with white feet, chest and tail tips; white legs, blaze, and collar optional.
Curved tail (on back), pointing ears, brown eyes.
Personality traits: Genius Hyper Independant Aggressive

A small, shorthaired hunting dog from Africa, the Basenji is one of the oldest known breeds.
A very alert and fun loving breed, loves the outdoors and makes a wonderful family pet. This breed is not a barker, a distinct yodel and wail is heard when they are excited or when hunting. They love to chase after cars and obedience training is a must. Very intelligent yet independent at the same time, The Basenji can be somewhat aloof around strangers making him a very suspicious breed. Avoid leaving this breed alone for the day, it will become destructive. Should be socialized early to prevent the tendencies to fight with other dogs. The Basenji needs quite a bit of exercise, minimum daily walks. A yard needs extra deep and tall fences as this dog has got a talent for escaping.


Beagle
Smooth fur, no coat. Any true hound color (tricolor).
Long tail, folded ears, brown eyes.
Personality traits: Genius Hyper

A dog with maximum sniffing power, this smooth-coated hound loves to follow its nose.
Originally bred for hunting purposes and does remarkably well. This breed does best when hunting hare, pheasant, or quail. Is full of energy and does great in a family environment. Very lively, active, happy and high energy making a wonderful companion for many different families. Does very wll with children and other pets. This breed should never show aggression or timidity. The Beagle is very eager to please, and is very intelligent however training must be consistent as this breed tends to lose interest and focus on something that catches his attention. If not trained properly, ignoring is a big problem. The Beagle deserves a home with a large fenced in yard, as he is bound to run off if something catches his interest. Two long daily walks are recommended.


Black Russian Terrier
Long fur, with coat. Black, black with some gray hair.
Short tail, folded ears, black eyes.
Personality traits: Genius Hyper Friendly Aggressive

The Black Russian Terrier is loyal, strong, intelligent and reliable. He is active, but dignified, and will delight in joining the owner in a variety of outdoor activities. The breed is happiest when doing some type of work, such as playing games, agility, obedience, or protection. Balanced temperament and good trainability allow successful use in many working modalities and canine sports. A wonderful companion and a loyal family member. This breed gets along fine with children and other animals, provided properly socialized. This breed does well in urban, suburban or country setting with reasonable amounts of exercise.

Boston Terrier
Smooth fur, no coat.
Short tail, pointing ears, black eyes.

A muscular dog with a silky smooth coat, this terrier was bred to be a companion dog.


Chihuahua (long)
Long fur, with coat. Any colors such as fawn, brown, black, and white. The coat may be solid in color, marked with splashes of color, or tri-color.

This handful of a dog originated in Mexico and may have made his first appearance in Europe thanks to the travels of Christopher Columbus.
The Chihuahua is the smallest of all breeds and each individ has its own unique personality, so only a few generalizations can be made. They are energetic, graceful, and display a human-like expression. Deeply devoted and they become extremely attached to one or two Sims. They are bold, fearless, and highly protective of their Master. Is normally gentle, loving, and sweet-tempered, but makes excellent watchdogs. This breed is not well suited for children or other pets. The Chihuahua can be difficult to train, and responds best to praising. The Chihuahua is an excellent apartment or condominium dweller. Their exercise needs can mostly be covered indoors with play sessions, but they also enjoy daily walks with their owner. The Chihuahua suffers from cold climates and must be protected when taken outside.

English bulldog
Smooth fur, no coat.
Short tail, folded ears, brown eyes.
Personality traits:

The name bulldog is derived from this breed's history as bull baiters, but its character has changed considerably since then and is now prized for being pacific, equable, and kind.


French bulldog
Smooth fur, no coat.
Short tail, pointing ears, brown eyes.
Personality traits:

It is thanks to American influence that this little, muscular dog kept its distinguished bat-like ears. If not for that, it would look more like a smaller version of the English bulldog.


Italian greyhound
Smooth fur, no coat.
Long tail, folded ears, black eyes.

Jack Russell Terrier
Medium fur, with coat.
Short tail, folded ears, brown eyes.

This small but spirited dog was originally bred by the Reverend John Russell for fox hunting in Devonshire, England.


Miniature Bull Terrier
Smooth fur, no coat. Pure white, or any color to predominate.
Long tail, pointing ears, black eyes.
Personality traits: Hyper Friendly Aggressive

The Bull Terrier is a cross between the Bulldog and the Old English Terrier with a bit of Spanish Pointer in his bloodline. Has been used as bull attacker, a guard dog, a ratter, a herder, and a watchdog and does extremely well in all. The Miniature Variety of the Bull Terrier comes from the same origins as the Standard, but developed to retain a more manageable size. Lively, friendly, yet protective, this breed can be quite difficult at times. Can be protective of his owner and territory giving off a fearless and brave presence. It's a dog that requires an experienced and dominant owner trying to limit the tendency of aggression. Can be difficult to train, and the local Pet Obedience Trainer should be hired at an early age to make training a little easier in the future. This breed does well around other pets given the proper socialization, however should be supervised around smaller animals. Should not be left unsupervised around small children. Loves a regular romp free, but should always be in a fenced area. This dog also loves long walks. The Miniature Bull Terrier does best in a home with a yard.


Miniature Poodle
Medium fur, with coat.

This curly-haired dog has a very distinct coat shape.


Miniature Schnauzer

Short tail, pointing ears, black eyes.

Pug
Smooth fur, no coat. Silver, apricot-fawn, or black, with black muzzle or mask, ears, cheek moles, and trace down back.
Curved tail (on back), folded ears, black eyes.
Personality traits: Lazy Friendly Cowardly

The Pug is a bug-eyed little bit of a dog.
Don't underestimate the size of this dog; this is a big dog in a small dogs body, making him very sturdy and very devoted. The Pug should never be timid, and should never show signs of aggression. He should always be friendly and playful. The Pug does extremely well around children. He can do very well around other dogs, but should be socialized at an early age like other breeds. This is one of the harder breeds to train, and obedience training at an early age is recommended to make training more efficient and easier at a later stage in life. Has the tendency to overeat and become lazy, so exercise must be provided on a regular basis. Loves long walks but is relatively active indoors and does well without a yard. Excellent for an apartment environment.


Puggle
Smooth fur, no coat.
Short tail, folded ears, brown eyes.
Personality traits:

This new mix between Pugs and Beagles is one of the most popular "Designer Breeds" around.


Schipperke
Long fur, with coat.

Schipperke is Flemish for "little captain" and evokes this breed's reputation as the consummate boat dog.

Shiba Inu
Smooth fur, no coat.

Personality traits:

The smallest of native Japanese dogs, this breed was officially recognized in December 1936, when the Cultural Properties Act designated it as a precious natural product of the Japanese nation.
