Deadline for
predicting Day50
was April 21st!
Please
note that 50 Sim days will not necessarily be 50 Real Life days. The project
starts on April 15th, and will probably close May 15th. To keep track on
time please check back on the reports that will be posted every 5th Sim
day. There will be a total of 10 reports.

More pictures
can be seen in the Album. For
each 5 days report, there will be a 5 days Album. Photos are commented
on, making the album a short version of the report. Make sure to check
both! :)

Sim
Watch: Report Day1-5
April
18, 2002 - by Bimbo N. Loveless
The
8 test persons have now been living together here in Simmerville for 5
Sim days, and as the only web site in the world, we bring you the first
report from the Sim Watch house!
Simmerville, Day1 at 7 AM.
The 8 participants are lined up outside the new building #.
Inside they will find a library, kitchen, dining room, 4xwc/shower, 4 bedrooms,
3 balconies/terraces, stairway and elevator, and an atrium patio. In 2
days they will have access to the rooms equipped for fun and sports, including
a swimming pool.
This
report has 4 sections:
Illustrations
are linked from the report where the relevant situation is described, like
this: #.
All illustrations are also available from the Album.
The
reports will include a lot of stuff, in particular this first report, so
I recommend you to prepare a large cup of tea before you dive into the
material. I'm not part of the project myself, so therefore I lead you directly
on to 3 of the responsible scientists: |

Personal
relations
April
18, 2002 - by Ursull S. Swims, member of Sims Science
It
is a tad early for commenting on each of the household members' relations,
or possible relations. They are still in the progress of learning to know
each other, and to find the pulse of their new household. There has also
been many curious Simmerville neighbours wanting to check out the Sim Watch
house, resulting in a lot of time spent on talking with people outside
the household, and not really interesting for our project, because the
test persons most likely will lose contact with most of their neighbours
during the 50 days.
We
have made a few interesting observations though #,
some even quite surprising. On Day1 everyone was told to study cooking.
So they did, they even learned more cooking than we intended, the men included.
The funny thing is that the 4 men stuck together while studying, and the
women worked in two pairs. This must have been a coincidence, but still
it is interesting. #
We
also noticed that our "research buffer", John, had made more contacts during
Day1 than anyone else, but by the end of Day5 the others seem to have caught
up with him. It might be John's neutral personality being easy for most
Sims to handle, as the others are more extreme while John is well balanced.
At least this can make it easier to establish contact with him,
while his advantage might fade when other Sims get to know him a little
better #.
On
Day5 a very dramatic situation occurred, as 2 household members were close
to start a serious fight. We would never expect this to happen this early,
especially not because the two persons involved tended to be good friends
only 2 days ago. But today their relation is very negative. They slapped
each other many times, and went on insulting and bragging until one of
them went to bed. None of them are extremely mean by nature, but they were
both very tired and in a bad mood before they ended up fighting #.
This might tell us that in a stressed situation and if hungry/tired/lonely
etc, the kindest person might transform to a beast! The question now is
how will those two test persons behave when they meet on Day6?
After
5 days the highest individual friendship score is 34 while the lowest is
-50! But - it's very early in the project and just anything can happen. |

Practical
and technical
April
18, 2002 - by Simbille Ballong, member of Sims Science
The
first 5 days have been hectic for the team making sure all appliances and
technical equipment is working satisfying and can be reached by those who
are supposed to use the items. Because of the project lasting for a limited
period, it has been important to find all bad inventory solutions that
will only harm the project as soon as possible to make needed adjustments.
And there have been many technical and practical mistakes.
A typical
example is the bookcase that was built into the kitchen counter to make
the counter look smart. It turned out that they could not use the surface
of the bookshelf for preparing food or serving a meal etc, so on Day2 it
was replaced with a regular counter section.
Another
mistake was the lack of trash cans. 8 people mainly eating from cans do
cause a lot of mess. Although the Sim Watch house is well equipped, we
decided to keep the kitchen to a pretty low standard, because of the possibility
of low skills for using the stove etc. So, we did not give them a trash
compiler nor a dish washer, which we now regret, but we have decided to
go on with the low standard. So, in the kitchen they have only one single
black trash can, and in the library (next door) there is a tiny office
trash can. But in the dining room and on the large terrace upstairs where
the bbc grill is located, we had placed no trash cans at all. On Day2 we
realized it would cause too much stress and partly ruin our project if
they had no trash can upstairs, so we placed one simple trash can next
to the grill.
The
trash problem in the kitchen is not only caused by the lack of cans, but
the fact that the kitchen counter constantly is covered with dirty dish,
which nobody care to clean. The counter is too short, but if it was double
as long, they would probably just leave twice as many dish on it. We knew
they were slobs (most of them), but we didn't imagine they could produce
this much mess. Even outside the house they have found a spot just under
the kitchen windows, where they occasionally throw some garbage. We are
afraid it will be a problem to hire a maid in 5 days, and even if she takes
the job she might not be able to get the work done during one day, as the
8 test persons will produce mess constantly. From Day5 it seems like a
few of the test persons have improved slightly on cleaning up.
On Day1, just after they
marched in, each of them had something they wanted to check out. That's
a true Sim's nature. Funny thing was that so many of them ran off to check
out the same object - a Startzfern floor plant located on the large terrace
upstairs. There were many such plants in the house, but they all wanted
to check out the same item. Did they capture what the others were checking
out, getting curious and wanting to see the same thing for themselves in
case it would be discussed at the dining table? #
We
gave them only 6 single beds and one double bed, thinking we had constructed
a challenge, but the stressless (Von Braun Recliner) chair we put in the
double bed room turned out to be very popular to sleep in, so there has
actually been a total of 9 beds in the house.
On
Day5 we discovered that there was almost no light in the dining room, and
we wonder if that is the reason why they never clean the dining table.
Some extra lamps has been added in there, as we didn't want that to effect
the project #.
There
is a strange thing concerning the fun stuff, nobody has yet used the tv
set or the stereo! We don't even know if they work properly. Maybe they
have too many fun giving objects to choose from. When installing all the
fun stuff on Day3, we forgot to give them 2 chess tables as intended. That
will be adjusted tomorrow, on Day6.
Finally
- we forgot to build doors from the pink bed room and the white bed room,
to their respective balconies, but that was fixed on Day3 #.
There was also a garden lamp that was removed as it blocked one of the
dining room doors. It's easy to forget that even a tiny object can block
an entrance. |
